Curatorial Statement
Time defines each generation; it is an ever forward moving constant that measures every moment of our life; we cannot capture time, what has passed, has passed. Yet art, especially great art, can; it removes itself from the moment of its creation and can inspire a new generation of admirers totally removed from the time the work was created, bringing a new perspective to the artists original meaning. Allowing art to grow from its historical and cultural roots; classical masters, antiquities, post modernism or contemporary works, be they paintings, sculptures or photography all capture the traditions of their own time.
Contemporary art by definition interprets what we see and what our experience within 'our time', what we define as ground breaking today will be viewed very differently by future generations; risque now, blase tomorrow constantly challenging our minds and the status quo. Using varying media, materials and presentation methods, contemporary art challenges the traditional norms and tests the boundaries of our understanding and tolerance; we see a connection and similarity between the past or present and from this, we see a light to the future.
The Upper House transcends reality and captures dreams that share tranquil moments set amongst striking contemporary design quite like no other hotel in Hong Kong. This exclusive hotel art program entitled “In the Mood for Art” brings a brand new perspective to Andrew Fu’s interpretation of modern hotel aesthetic philosophy.
Presenting a collection of selected contemporary art pieces, this exhibition will lead you to explore the link between contemporary art and our traditions, at the same time investigating how these interact and influence our modern living. |
